Nykolai Aleksander was born in 1978 in Germany, and has been living in England since the late nineties.
In 2001, she began working with Andrew E. Maugham on his novel "Convivium". This led her to start drawing and painting, first simply to visualise the characters from the book, and in 2002 - with the discovery of a Wacom tablet - she made the move into the digital medium. Completely self-taught, Nykolai Aleksander soon caught the attention of the fine art gallery Washington Green with her traditional paintings, as well as Ballistic Publishing with her CG pieces; both urged her to submit her work for publication. Unable to juggle traditional and digital art to an extent that would satisfy the demand of both sides, she settled on CG in 2005.
Nykolai Aleksander’s portfolio includes publications in various Ballistic Publishing books, Focal Press & 3DTotal's "Digital Art Masters" series, as well as numerous magazines such as Advanced Photoshop, Fantasy Art China, INTEL Visual Adrenaline, and regular appearances in 2Dartist.
Nykolai Aleksander has been awarded for her work at CGSociety, 3DTotal, IT'S ART, and GFX Artist, received the Stellar Art Award at Digital Arts California and was nominated for the CG Excellence Award 2009 at the CG Overdrive Expo in Singapore.
Currently, Nykolai Aleksander is working on a fine art story book, "Of Light and Dust", as well as several other projects in both digital and traditional media.
